I was the graphic and print designer on this project. I worked with the system-wide coordinator on the request who took on the responsibility of sending the artwork to the printer since she didn’t yet know how many banners she would need. My manager and the director of operations gave design feedback and checked that the artwork followed branding guidelines.
I was asked to redesign artwork for 7ft standing banners that would be sent to PA CareerLink Centers in Philadelphia. The copy of the banner stayed the same, but the coordinator wanted the design to be less cluttered and have the career centers be highlighted. My manager gave me a recent flyer design to use for inspiration and branding. I communicated with the print vendor, Fast Signs, about timeline and file transfer.
For the new design of the banners, I removed repetitive text such as labeling “Facebook” next to the facebook social icon. The Facebook icon is universally understood as “Facebook” so there was no need to add it as a label. The headings were simplified so there was room to add “Profession Training” which is a newer, growing benefit of careerlink centers as apprenticeships and on-the-job training becomes more popular and effective. Lastly, the new design uses photos that highlight a recovery occupation which is an occupation that pays a living wage and has future prospects.
