My Role

I was the graphic designer and Wordpress designer on this project. I worked with the communications project specialist to setup meetings with the stakeholders. The stakeholders were the Director of Workforce Operations and Senior Manager of Workforce Systems.

Description

Recovery Occupations was one of PhilaWorks and PA CareerLink’s marketing initiatives to promote and educate people about occupations that were found to be “good jobs” according to a study done by the PhilaWorks Data and Research team. Good jobs proved were jobs that had dependable job openings during Covid pandemic, paid a living wage, and required an Associates degree or less. The original project request was made by the manager of the data and research team who had just recently left. The PA CareerLink team picked it up and changed the business requirements from posting the Recovery Occupations pdf to creating web pages for seven occupations that drilled down to descriptions of good jobs related to each.

Outcomes/Lessons Learned

The deliverables for this project included designing six double-sided postcards, a hero image, social media posts, and a landing page which ended up being more of a pillar page once the project was more fleshed out in design feedback sessions. A pillar page aims to build your brand’s authority on a specific topic, whereas a landing page aims to generate leads for follow-up marketing campaigns.

Pillar pages are more time intensive but adds long term value with better SEO performance than PDFs, increased brand authority on the topic of Recovery Occupations, and serving as reusable content for future editions of the Recovery Occupations catalog. Turning the catalog’s content into custom post types although hard to adopt at first by the stakeholders, helped set up the design process for future projects and fulfilled PhilaWorks’ goal of being an expert on the topic of Recovery Occupations.
